Car leaves the road ending up in a moat with driver fleeing the scene

A car left the road and went into a moat with the driver fleeing the scene of the incident.

The incident took place just after 5pm yesterday afternoon, Thursday, December 15, in Cutler’s Lane, Shetland, when police officers were called out.

A silver Ford Mondeo left the road and went into a moat and the driver was then reported to have left the scene of the collision.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident and ensured there were no other persons in the vehicle or the moat and assisted with a search of the local area using a drone.

The vehicle was recovered this morning (Friday, December 16) and enquiries into the collision are continuing.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident and are particularly keen to trace a woman who is believed to have passed on information to a nearby resident.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Shelland or Harleston between 4.30pm and 5.30pm and who may have seen a silver Mondeo or a man walking in Cutler’s Lane or nearby roads.

Any motorists who were driving in the area with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle is asked to review the footage for anything that may be of assistance.
