Students visit care home to bring festive cheer to residents

Students from Sybil Andrews Academy have brought some festive cheer after visiting a local care home. 

The Bury St Edmunds secondary school visited the town’s Glastonbury Court care home to sing and perform a series of Christmas songs. 

The invitation was reciprocated when a group of residents visited the Moreton Hall school to watch their Christmas show.

Laura Caunter, pastoral officer at Sybil Andrews Academy, said: “It was wonderful to see the students sing and play the piano before they spent time talking to the residents. We look forward to working with Glastonbury Court on a number of projects going forward as we build up positive relationships between secondary school pupils and the care home residents.”

Ana Mihai, the home manager at Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, added: “We had a lovely time welcoming the students and getting into the festive spirit – the residents enjoyed listening to their performance and singing along with them to some of their favourite Christmas tunes. Intergenerational activities like these are a big part of life here at Glastonbury Court and a great way for residents to make new relationships and promote learning between the ages – we’re already looking forward to welcoming the students back soon.”
