A12 to close to allow for work to be carried out on the dual carriageway

The A12 on the outskirts of Ipswich is set to be closed later this month as a series of work is set to be carried out.

The closure, which commences next Monday, October 27, and continues for a week, will mean traffic heading south towards Colchester will have to divert along the A137 towards Brantham, Manningtree, Lawford and Ardleigh.

It road will be closed from the Copdock interchange to the Crown interchange in Colchester for resurfacing, refreshing road markings and replacing worn-out studs.

The work will be carried out between 9pm and 5am week nights.

National Highways said that for them to carry out the work they will need to close sections of the A12, and divert traffic as detailed in the table below:

Diversion route for southbound A12 via junction 33 (Copdock Roundabout): 

  • Continue on the A14 to junction 56. 
  • Join the A137 southbound towards Ardleigh. 
  • Follow the road into Colchester. 
  • At the roundabout, take the second exit onto St Andrews Avenue. 
  • Take the second exit again onto Cowdray Avenue. 
  • Go through The Albert Roundabout and continue onto Colne Bank Avenue. 
  • At Colne Bank Roundabout, take the second exit onto Cymberline Way (A133). 
  • At Spring Lane Roundabout, take the second exit onto the fast link slip road to rejoin the A12 southbound at junction 27. 
  • You can then continue your journey south on the A12.
