Car boot sale enthusiasts have helped to raise money for the cancer unit at the West Suffolk Hospital.

It comes after a special fundraising event at the fortnightly Fordham Car Boot sale which is jointly run by Richard Taylor and his wife Christina Humphrys.

A total of £2,141.14 was raised from the event held on July 9, at Trinity Hall Farm, which was made up of donations and collections.

The car boot sale, which is situated in the village just off the A14 and the A142, is one of the largest of its kind across East Anglian and regularly attracts hundreds of people.

Richard and his wife have been running the event for the past 20 years and decided to raise money for the cancer unit after Christina was treated at the hospital in Bury St Edmunds. It takes place every two weeks starting in March and runs until October.

The couple decided that last month’s event would be a special charity day and the money was directed towards the My WiSH Charity, which supports the hospital including the cancer unit.

Richard said: “It was just a one off for My WiSH. All the car booters supported the day and those who attended were so generous. We had a very good day and everyone was very generous.

“It was not the best of days as the weather was not very good, but people did turn out and we ended up with a good amount.”

Every car booter was charged £10 a pitch and the funds were boosted by hairdresser, Clare from the Stephen John Salon in Bury, who carried out a few trims to those attending.

Richard added: “We gave all the attendance money to My WiSH to go towards the grand total and regulars donated money as well and everyone attending chipped in and we are very lucky with the amount that we raised.”

Sally Daniels, fundraising manager, said “This is the second time Richard and Chris have supported the cancer unit and we can’t thank them enough. It’s a fantastic amount and we will definitely put it to good use to support patients and their families who are going through cancer treatment”.
