Campaign launched to halt plans for care village in Elmswell

The blueprint for the care village in Elmswell.

A campaign has been launched in Elmswell following revelations of a major development in the community.

A care village featuring a total of 66 homes along with a further 36 bungalows and four almshouses is being planned on a large swathe of land to the north and west of School Road.

Plans submitted by Christchurch Land & Estates reveal it would butt up against the railway line and the new development off Parnell Road and School Road reaching as far south as St John’s Church.

It would also feature a management office, club house, community growing area, an orchard and community bee hives and would dramatically change the outlook for many people living in Elmswell as the area continues to grow and develop.

The blueprint for the development was submitted to the planning department at Mid Suffolk District Council early last month and now residents in the village are being asked to object to the plans.

It has already drawn criticism from a number of villagers who say one of the best views of Elmswell is “under threat” and the nearby health centre at Woolpit would have to cater for another 100 plus patients.

Over 50 people have already lodged their complaints against the plans which can be found at
