Denny Bros staff get on their e-bikes as part of trial project
Staff at an award-winning printing and labelling company have shown their environmental credentials by signing up to an e-bike scheme.
Four members of the Denny Bros team in Bury St Edmunds have been trialling the e-bikes after the company signed up to a project run by Suffolk County Council.
Under the council’s Way To Go Suffolk sustainability scheme, staff will spend two months using the bikes for both travelling to work and fitness and leisure before being signposted to cost-effective ways of buying or hiring the bikes.
Beth Lebbon, account manager at Denny Bros who has led on the scheme, said: “As a company, we pride ourselves on our environmental measures and promoting these to our staff.
“This is just another great example of that and the initial feedback from staff has been really positive.”
Alexander Nicoll, deputy dabinet member for Transport Strategy at Suffolk County Council, said he was pleased with how the e-bikes trial scheme had gone so far.
He added: “The e-bikes project is all about promoting sustainable travel and we are delighted to have businesses sign up to the scheme from across the county.
“There are huge benefits including reducing usage of cars and our carbon footprint as well as improving our mental wellbeing and financial savings.”
He said Suffolk County Council officers initially approached Denny Bros as they had been successful with a number of environmental initiatives and had won awards in recognition of those measures.
“We are delighted to hear from staff how well received the e-bikes have been and would urge any other Suffolk companies to get in touch if they want to take part in the scheme,” he added.
The bikes, supplied by e-bike rental provider Hurrecane, are different to conventional bikes as they are powered by a battery to assist the rider, increasing the distance that someone can cycle.
