Music and comedy at The Apex this autumn as series of acts lined up at The Apex
There’s a mix music and comedy along with a host of bands and entertainers lined up over the coming months at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds.
Opening the autumn season on September 2 is Kristian Bush, the GRAMMY Award winning co-founder of the folk-rock duo Billy Pilgrim and the country duo, Sugarland.
Fans of folk music can also look forward to the return of Lindisfarne, Blazin’ Fiddles, Oysterband, Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band, Turin Brakes Acoustic and The Albion Christmas Band.
Renowned gypsy jazz guitarist Lulo Reinhardt (the grandnephew of Django) returns to The Apex on September 4, with classical guitarist Yuliya Lonskaya, for a concert of Latin, flamenco, jazz and gypsy guitar music.
There will be swing jazz from The Len Phillips Swing Orchestra’s tribute to Frank & Ella and The Chris Ingham Quintet’s feel-good Swinging Christmas, and a mix of jazz and blues from The Manfreds, with original front man Paul Jones.
Lloyd Cole (September 14) rose to fame with The Commotions and their catchy hits “Perfect Skin” and “Lost Weekend”.
Trevor Nelson’s Soul Nation sees the DJ spinning old school R&B tunes from the 1980s, 90s and 00s. More hits from the 80s come from Johnny Hates Jazz, and Haircut 100 singer Nick Heyward; and then it’s back to the 70s with Colin Blunstone, singer from The Zombies.
Scottish rockers, Big Country will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their “Steeltown” album on September 20.
Also returning to the venue are twin-guitar rockers Wishbone Ash; blues-rock’s resilient icon Walter Trout; one of hard rock’s most exciting new acts, The Kris Barras Band; and maximum RnB from Nine Below Zero and Dr Feelgood.
After an incredible 64 years of live shows, Elkie Brooks’ “Long Farewell Tour” calls into The Apex on October 4.
You can hear equally classy vocals from Vonda Shepard (known for her musical accompaniment on Ally McBeal);Queen Of The West End, Kerry Ellis; Julia Fordham (one part of the trio Woman to Woman) and pioneers of the neo-burlesque/swing scene, The Puppini Sisters.
The extensive list of tribute acts includes ELO Experience; Go Now – The Music of The Moody Blues; The Wonder of Stevie; Rocket Man A Tribute to Elton John; Tina Live – The Tina Turner Experience; Walk Right Back, The Everly Brothers Story; The Amy Winehouse Band; The Van Morrison Alumni Band; Gordon Hendricks as Elvis; and the ever-popular Abba Party Nights.
If you fancy something a bit different, Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers bring an electrifying and uplifting performance of skill, stamina and heart-pounding rhythms on October 8.
Seckou Keita Homeland Band sees “the Hendrix of the Kora” joined by Moustapha Gaye, lead guitarist for Youssou n’Dour; Jah Wobble and The Invaders Of The Heart play hypnotic bass riffs over a mix of global music, reggae fusion and punk; and Penguin Café will perform the eclectic music of the Penguin Café Orchestra.
There will be comedy from Ivo Graham, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Mark Thomas, An Afternoon with Laurel & Hardy and the regular Fat Cat Comedy Club.
