Virtuoso guitarists to appear at The Apex next month
When two different worlds like gypsy and classical guitar collide, you’d expect fireworks, and that’s what’s expected when two virtuoso guitarists perform at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, next month.
When Lulo Reinhardt and Yuliya Lonskaya (pictured above) presented their new programme for the first time, the audience were delighted by the sparks that flew between them.
Reinhardt, the great-nephew of the legendary Django, is a charismatic guitarist with a musical genius that gives the appearance of utter effortlessness.
A big name on international stages, he performs a mixture of gypsy jazz, flamenco and South American rhythms.
Today he is one of the most important, authentic and unmistakable ‘voices’ in Sinti (as opposed to Roma) music.
He has dedicated his life to the guitar. At age five, he was introduced to the family tradition of mastering the instrument by his late father Bawo Reinhardt.
Over the years, Lulo has broadened his musical horizons and immersed himself in the music of other cultures. Today he tends towards a fusion of styles – flamenco, Latin and Brazilian jazz – always with a nod to his gypsy influences.
Belarusian artist Lonskaya makes hearts beat faster with the brilliance and versatility of her guitar playing.
She studied at music schools in Germany and Italy and has gone on to perform alongside several prestigious orchestras.
Yuliya has toured across Europe and North America and was the first Belarusian guitarist on the stage of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. She has a fresh and unique style with her own classic, folk, jazz and bossa nova arrangements.
Their first recording together, “Piece of Soul” is a celebration of several musical styles, embracing “gypsy meets classical” and featuring new arrangements of iconic classical guitar works and several world premieres.
This concert will treat the audience to Latin, Flamenco, Brazilian jazz and gypsy music of the very highest level.
Lulo Reinhardt and Yuliya Lonskaya are at The Apex on Wednesday, September 4, at 7.30pm.
