A team of power planners planned a tough day when they volunteered to help transform a disused  Suffolk pub into a community hub.

Eleven members of the planning team based at UK Power Networks, in Bury St Edmunds, cleared and swept up debris inside the Framsden Greyhound pub and its out buildings following flooding last October.

Then they set about preparing all the ground floor windows for painting.

Planning manager Ian Turpin said: “’Many of the UK Power Networks planning team live and work in the Suffolk area and it was great to help out the fantastic local initiative at the Framsden Greyhound pub.

“Initially preparing the windows looked easy, however, it proved a tricky job, but with the assistance of cups of tea, and some delicious cheese rolls that were provided we got there in the end.”

Director of the Framsden project, Julia Green, added: “What an amazing group of people, really engaged and interested in our project and truly competitive whilst working. They were great to work with and besides that, we had an excellent day with them.”

The team carried out the work using UK Power Networks Donate a Day scheme which gives the 6,300 staff two paid days each year to volunteer in their local communities.

The Framsden team have a pop-up pub on Monday, August 26, from 5pm to 8pm at the pub with a cash bar outside. So far they have raised £350,000 from their target of £450,000.
