Songwriter set to display his talents with gig at The Apex, next month
Lloyd Cole (pictured above) rose to fame with The Commotions and their string of well-written art-pop hits such as “Perfect Skin”, “Brand New Friend” and “Lost Weekend”.
These, together with his solo material, have established him as one of the most articulate and acute songwriters of the post-punk era and he is due to appear at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, next month.
Cole has displayed different facets of his songwriting over the course of his career, in addition to straightforward rock, he has explored, among other things, the worlds of country, electronic music and synth pop.
However, the key elements have remained the same: personal lyrics and strong melodies are among his absolute trademarks.
His extensive and ever-growing output ensure that he remains a relevant artist, rather than a nostalgia-driven favourite.
At the heart of it all, is a soulfulness that reminds us that music, at its best, is not just a pleasure to listen to but also something that can be felt.
Lloyd Cole is at The Apex on Sunday, September 14, at 7.30pm.
