Portman Road hailed as one of the top ten stadiums in the Premier League
A new study has revealed that Portman Road, the home of Ipswich Town FC, is one of the top ten stadiums in the Premier League.
The data collected by sports experts Flashscore compared 10 metrics that contribute to the experience of visiting football stadiums.
This includes the prices of a season ticket, food and drink, and a home shirt in the club shop.
The study also considered each stadium’s Google review score and an analysis of all the comments that mentioned the word “atmosphere” to see the percentage that was positive.
Researchers also analysed the capacity of each stadium, the percentage of a stadium that was filled last season, and the distance to the nearest tube or train station. Each factor was scored out of 10 and then summed to calculate a total score out of 100.
Portman Road was ranked sixth while Old Trafford, Manchester United’s stadium, came out top with a score of 71.42.
Old Trafford is home to the cheapest pint in the league at only £3. It also has the largest capacity of any stadium, with 74,310 seats; last season, the average attendance was 73,534, meaning, on average, the capacity was 98.2 per cent filled.
The cheapest season ticket costs £579, slightly below the league average (£596). It is also the second closest stadium to the nearest train station (0.11 km). The stadium is rated 4.6 on Google out of 46,363 reviews, and of all the comments that mentioned the word “atmosphere”, 97pc were positive.
West Ham’s London Stadium is ranked as the second-best stadium with a score of 66.93, Aston Villa’s Villa Park is third, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comes in at fourth and Goodison Park, the home of Everton, is fifth.
Portman Road, where newly promoted Ipswich play, scored 59.11.
Ipswich fans can enjoy the second cheapest pint in the league, costing only £3.50, and the second most affordable season ticket priced at £372. Purchasing a home shirt from the club shop is also the best value in the Premier League, costing £59.
The stadium’s capacity is 30,250, and 99.22pc of seats were filled on average last season. Of all the reviews that mention the “atmosphere”, 97.1pc are positive.
A spokesperson from Flashscore said: “Premier League stadiums are far more than just venues; they are the soul of the match day experience. Each ground, with its unique history and architecture, serves as a cathedral of football.
“The atmosphere created within these walls, from the passionate chants to the roaring celebrations, turns every match into an unforgettable spectacle. These stadiums not only provide the stage for the beautiful game but also help forge the deep emotional connections that fans have with their teams, making them an integral part of the sport.”
