Man jailed for drug offences after police stop

A man has been jailed for drug offences after an incident on the Suffolk Cambridgeshire border.

Elvis Peci, (pictured above) aged 23 and of no fixed abode but from the Cambridgeshire area, was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, November 27, after pleading guilty to all the charges he faced.

On Wednesday, September 4, officers from the Sentinel West team intercepted a vehicle on the Suffolk / Cambridgeshire border at Fordham.

Peci provided a fictious account as to his whereabouts that was quickly disproved.

He was detained for the purposes of a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 where officers located multiple press seal bags of powder cocaine with a potential street value of £1,900 and a quantity of cash.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

He was remanded in custody until he appeared at Crown Court on November 27.

Apart from the jail term he also had £650 in cash forfeited and also pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance.

The arrest and investigation was led by the Sentinel West team. The three Sentinel teams across the south, west and eastern areas of the county provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk’s road network to proactively disrupt serious and organised criminal activity as well as increase police visibility. The mobile unit disrupts criminals and protects communities across Suffolk’s road network using a variety of techniques to deal with offenders involved.

PC Harry Tully from the Sentinel West team said: “We will continue to deal robustly with those that come into Suffolk to distribute drugs and ultimately cause misery to our local community. This is another example of where swift, positive action has been taken to put the offender before the courts at the earliest opportunity.”
