The ‘godfather of political comedy’ to appear at The Apex

Often referred to as the “godfather of political comedy” (amidst many other things), Mark Thomas has been performing comedy for nearly 40 years.

With a recent-ish step towards theatre in his last few shows, he is going back to stand-up and exercising his finest anti-Tory sentiment in his UK autumn tour, “Gaffa Tapes” and his show is due to be staged at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, next week.

Mark is one of the last few truly political alternative comedians.

How to describe his work? A mix of standup, investigative journalism and the odd bout of performance art. He is 57 years old and doesn’t care if it sounds pretentious.

He has been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance bringing in £1,000,000s for HMRC.

He has forced a politician to resign, changed laws on protest, become the Guinness Book of Records world-record holder for number of protests in 24 hours, taken the police to court three times and won (the fourth is in the pipeline), walked the length of the Israeli Wall in the West Bank (that’s 724km), and generally mucked about trying to have fun and upset (shall we say) the right people.

Mark Thomas is at The Apex on Wednesday, December 11, at 8pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more information or to book tickets.
