A11 Red Lodge to Barton Mills concrete surface repairs and maintenance work next month

Repairs and maintenance work, set to cost £1.26 million, is to be carried out on the A11 between the Red Lodge interchange and the Fiveways roundabout, at Barton Mills, next month.

The work will involve replacing worn and damaged concrete sections, known as bays, reconstructing and sealing the joints between them, other localised repairs and replacing road markings and road studs.

Once completed  the road surface is set to last for up to five more years and to reduce the need for emergency, unplanned repairs.

National Highways are to carry out the work on Wednesday, January 8 , taking approximately four weeks to complete.

It will be carried out overnight while traffic flows are lighter, week nights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

The A11 will be closed, one direction at a time, between the Red Lodge interchange and the Fiveways roundabout, and divert traffic via a fully signed diversion as follows:

Date of road closure

Direction of road closure

8 January to 28 January 2025

Southbound

29 January to 3 February 2025

Northbound

While the A11 is closed southbound, traffic will exit the A11 at Fiveways roundabout and follow the A1101 Mildenhall Road towards Bury St Edmunds.

At the A1101 / B1106 roundabout, follow the B1106 Marham Parkway/Tut Hill towards the A14.

At the Westley Interchange, join the A14 westbound to rejoin the A11 southbound or continue on the A14.

Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.

To help manage traffic speeds along the diversion routes there will be signs to remind drivers to take extra care through residential areas. There will also be a speed camera van located along the diversion.
