Book vending machine for school thanks to Rotary club

Mid Suffolk Rotary President Guy Wiltshear has presented a book vending machine to Abbott’s Hall Community Primary School, in Stowmarket.

Headteacher Daniel Pettitt and his deputy Hannah Flory (pictured above with Mr Wiltshear, in the centre) were on hand for the presentation to the school in Danescourt Avenue.

The machine is a creative way to use vending machines to supply books to students or the public.

They are a good encouragement for students in schools to be on their best behaviour to be given a token that can be inserted into the machine for the book of their choice, and students faces have been mentioned to light up as they are getting their book of choice from the machine.

Parents often have difficulty in persuading their children to take their eyes off electronic screens.

Book vending machines are a novel way of getting children to take up reading again.

The child gets a token and chooses a book to take home and read. Once they are done, they can bring it back and get another token to choose another book to read.
