Three folk music acts to play at The Apex next month
Three of folk music’s finest contemporary musicians will play at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, at the end of February.
Founding members of the wildly ambitious 11-piece folk phenomenon, Bellowhead, John Spiers and Jon Boden (pictured above) have made the genre of spontaneous, punky English folk very much their own.
They create a multitude of textures with just a few acoustic instruments – Jon Boden sings and plays fiddle, guitar and stomp box, while John Spiers blends traditional squeezebox styles with his knowledge of contemporary dance music to create infectious rhythms.
Described by The Guardian as “the finest instrumental duo on the traditional scene”, Spiers and Boden have twice won the BBC Folk Award for Best Duo.
Acclaimed folk musician Seth Lakeman was catapulted into the music mainstream when he was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for his album “Kitty Jay”.
2024 marked the 20th anniversary of the album’s release – during which time, Seth has had six Top 4 albums, BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles and numerous awards.
Seth will release his self-produced new album “The Granite Way” on Valentine’s Day.
This collection of songs, recorded with a group of longtime collaborators, refers to ancient stories that inspired early West Country storytelling.
You can see Spiers and Boden at The Apex on Tuesday, February 25, and Seth Lakeman’s full band tour will call in on Friday, February 28.
