Irish songstress with ‘the world’s most beautiful female voice’ to appear at The Apex at the end of the month

Irish singer Cara Dillon (pictured above) and her band are to appear at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, at the end of this month.

She is described as being one of those rare talents you only come across a handful times – a staggeringly beautiful voice which reaches inside the soul of a song and imbues it with sweetness, poignancy and depth.

Cara  has been captivating audiences for over 20 years with, according to Mojo magazine: “Quite possibly the world’s most beautiful female voice.

Last year marked a significant milestone in her career as she unveiled “Coming Home”, a show featuring her first new material in over six years.

Coming Home” is born from a collection of personal poems, and the recorded album and book that followed.

This live production sees Cara skillfully weave this emotive new material with a selection of her beloved classics.

The result is a tapestry that seamlessly blends storytelling, poetry, and song, effortlessly blurring the lines between them and offering a rare and evocative glimpse into Cara’s personal memories and stories.

She’ll be accompanied by a band led by Sam Lakeman – his sensitive arrangements help to make this a compelling live show, in which profound memories and emotions are unlocked.

Cara was brought up in a close musical family, immersed in the rich cultural heritage of her native County Derry.

Having won the All-Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy aged 14 she went on to sing with Oige, De Dannan and then Equation.

It was in this band that she met her husband and musical collaborator Sam Lakeman (brother of Seth).

The combination of Cara’s expressive vocals and Lakeman’s rippling piano and fresh production squeezes new life into ancient material.

Their original songs sit happily alongside traditional tunes, whilst pointing to a distinct and distinguished musical identity all of their own.

Cara Dillon returns to The Apex on Friday, March 28, at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more information, or to book tickets.
