Two arrested in Stowmarket following incident in Bury St Edmunds

Two men have been arrested in Stowmarket following an incident in Bury St Edmunds.

Police were called at approximately 4.35pm yesterday, Friday, March 21, following reports that a man was being chased in the town centre by two men, one of whom was reportedly carrying a knife.

Initially the suspects pursued the victim in a black BMW car.

One of the suspects then proceeded to chase the victim on foot in the Peckham Street and St John’s Street area, before getting back into the car and driving away.

Police traced the vehicle to Stowmarket and at approximately 5.25pm two men were arrested by armed police officers in Stowmarket town centre in connection with the incident.

The men, a 37-year-old and a 32-year-old and both from Bury St Edmunds, have been arrested on suspicion of affray.

The 32-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

The pair were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning.

Police are conducting enquiries and believe this to be an isolated incident.

It is believed that the victim and suspects are known to each other.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, was not injured in the incident.
