A14 to close between Bury St Edmunds and Woolpit for resurfacing work

The A14, between junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds) and 47a (Woolpit) is to close for resurfacing work, renewal of road markings and replacement of traffic signs.

The project, by the Highways Agency, began in 2024 by resurfacing the A14 eastbound between junctions 44 and 47.

On Tuesday, April 22, the next phase of the work, which will last until August, will start between the hours of 8pm and 6am, week nights only.

To carry out the work the A14 will be closed (including slip roads at various locations) throughout the work.

Traffic will be diverted as follows: 

A14 westbound between junctions 47 and 44

Tuesday, April 22, to Tuesday, July 1.

 For drivers travelling westbound:

  • exit A14 at junction 51 (Beacon Hill).
  • travel along the A140 towards Scole.
  • then along the A143 and A134.
  • to rejoin the A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds) to continue your journey.

A14 eastbound between junctions 43 and 47a

Wednesday, July 2, to Thursday, August 7.

 For drivers travelling eastbound:

  • exit A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds).
  • travel along the A143 to Scole.
  • then south on the A140 to junction 51 (Beacon Hill).
