Seven year jail sentence for man who brandished knife at couple in their bedroom

A 36-year-old man has been jailed for offences including aggravated burglary and assault, occurring in Newmarket earlier this year.

Michael Majewski, (pictured above) of no fixed address, appeared before Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, April 9, where he was sentenced to seven-years’ imprisonment.

Majewski had previously pleaded guilty to the following three offences: aggravated burglary; attempted burglary; and assault causing actual bodily harm.

He received six years’ imprisonment for the aggravated burglary; a one-year consecutive sentence for the attempted burglary; and a three-month concurrent sentence for the ABH.

All three offences took place on Saturday, February 15, in Rous Road.

The first incident (the aggravated burglary) occurred at around 2.30am when a couple woke-up in their bedroom to find Majewski sitting in a chair holding a knife.

He was stroking the blade and repeatedly whispering “silence”.

Majewski said he was looking for “Adam” and when the victims said there wasn’t an Adam living there, he then left.

When the victims went downstairs they found an untidy search had taken place and items of food and drink had been consumed.

The second incident took place just under two hours later, at 4.20am, when Majewski was disturbed by the victim trying to break into his house.

The victim challenged Majewski and a tussle ensued, whereby the victim sustained a cut under his chin and reddening to his hands.

Majewski ran away from the scene, but police were called and following a search of the area he was located and arrested approximately 30 minutes later in Exeter Road.

Detective Inspector Cat Thompson, of West CID in Bury St Edmunds, said: “I am really pleased by the sentence handed down by the court and hope this acts as a deterrent to other criminals.

“These were both incidents that had a direct impact on the victims. I cannot imagine how terrifying it must have been to wake up and find a man in your bedroom holding a knife.

“The victims stayed remarkably calm in their handling of the situation.

“The second offence was also unpleasant and resulted in the victim having a physical altercation with Majewski and being injured in the process.

“It was an excellent team effort across that weekend to complete all the necessary work required to ensure Majewski was charged and remanded for court.

“He will now have plenty of time to reflect on his actions in prison.”
