Motorcyclist seriously injured following crash on A134 at Alpheton

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the A134 yesterday, Thursday, May 1, which involved the road being closed for just over eight hours.

Police officers were called to the incident at 5.20pm in Alpheton following reports of a three-vehicle collision involving a grey transit van, a silver Volkswagen Polo and a black Suzuki motorbike.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue, the East of England Ambulance service, air ambulance and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were all in attendance to the incident.

The rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his 60s, sustained serious injuries that are considered potentially life threatening and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, for treatment.

The driver of the Polo, a man aged in his late teens, also sustained injuries which are not considered life threatening. He was initially taken to West Suffolk Hospital, before being transported to Addenbrooke’s for treatment.

The driver of the van was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for emergency crew to attend to the incident, and reopened at approximately 2am, today, Friday 2 May.

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision and are also asking any motorists driving in the area at the time with a dashcam in their vehicle to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
