The outgoing chair of Babergh District Council, Elisabeth Malvisi, has raised more than £3,800 to be shared equally between her two chosen charities.
During her term as chair, she hosted several fundraising events and thanks to the generous support of residents across the district, presented cheques last week for £1,910 to Stour Valley Men’s Shed chairman, Dom Hoare, at Long Melford, and to Chris Boatwright, founder and clinical director of the Kernos centre, Sudbury.
Councillor Malvisi said: “During my tenure as chair of Babergh District Council I have supported two local charities that are very close to my heart, the Stour Valley Men’s Shed and the Kernos Centre.
“Both provide a very necessary and much needed service to our communities.
“I would ask that we continue to support both as best we can as life moves us forward.
“They do sterling work, and I have been honoured to have met and worked with them.”
Dom Hoare, the Stour Valley Men’s Shed chairman, said: “I would like to express on behalf of all at the Shed our thanks and gratitude for all the help and advice we have received this year.
“Fundraising and also raising awareness of the work we do helps so many men in the district and supports us in supporting others.”
Chris Boatwright, the Kernos Centre clinical director added: “We are honoured to be chosen by councillor Malvisi this year, raising funds and awareness are vital to keep our services running and remaining able to support the local community and the vulnerable adults and children we serve.”
Babergh’s new chair for 2025/26 is due to be announced at a meeting of the full council tonight (Wednesday, May 14).
