Outdoor performances of comedy show across the town centre in Bury St Edmunds

Imagine strolling through the heart of Bury St Edmunds on a warm summer evening, caught up in a hilarious love story unfolding all around you.

Steve And Steff For Ever transforms the town into a stage, turning familiar landmarks, bustling businesses, and secret side streets into the backdrop for romantic disasters, laugh-out-loud encounters, and unexpected moments of magic.

Audience members wear headphones, so every line of dialogue, sound effect, and musical cue is delivered directly to their ears, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience.

With its sharp wit, big heart, and totally unique format, Steve And Steff For Ever is the perfect feel-good night out.

Performances are taking place from August 1 to 31 and it is being taken to the streets of the town by the town’s Theatre Royal.

It is written by Ian Jarvis and stars Anna Soden, as Steff, and Joshua Diffley as Steve, and during a promenade performance, audiences follow the cast as they move from location to location around town.

The production’s outdoor nature adds to its excitement, and performance times have been carefully selected to give audiences the chance to enjoy a full evening in Bury – whether that’s grabbing drinks beforehand or heading out for dinner afterwards.

This is Theatre Royal’s second foray into outdoor theatre following the success of A Christmas Carol in 2020 – also adapted by Ian Jarvis – which was performed on Angel Hill to glowing audience reviews.

Owen Calvert-Lyons, the director of Steve and Steff For Ever and the artistic director of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, said: “Ever since we staged A Christmas Carol on Angel Hill during Covid-19 lockdown, audiences have been asking us when we’d return to outdoor performance.

“So this summer, the creative team behind A Christmas Carol will stage Steve And Steff For Ever – a brand-new romantic comedy performed in the streets of Bury St Edmunds. With only 40 tickets available per performance, you’ll need to book early.” –

Tickets are available now via the Theatre Royal Box Office or online at https://theatreroyal.org/events/steve-steff-for-ever/

Performances run Tuesday to Saturday throughout August at a range of times. Preview performances on Friday, August 1, are £18 per ticket; all other performances are £20.
