Man arrested following firearm incident in Newmarket

A man has been arrested following a firearm incident in Newmarket.

Police were called to Granary Road by the ambulance service at around 6.35am today, Wednesday, June 25, following reports that a man had been shot in the chest by an air weapon.

Police, the East of England Ambulance service and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were all in attendance to the incident.

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-changing or life-threatening.

At approximately 8.40am later in the day, a 56-year-old-man was arrested in Kentford on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning.

He was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, having failed a roadside breath test.

The victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other and as such, there is no wider threat to the public following this incident.

Anybody with information regarding the incident or who may have relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage in the area are asked to contact police quoting CAD 56 of 25 June.
