Wicket wit from Henry Blofeld

Legendary cricket broadcaster, Henry Blofeld (pictured above) takes readers on a charming journey through modern cricket, while looking back at the great games of yesteryear and is set to appear at The Apex, next month.
Best known for his wonderfully eccentric commentary and trademark phrase “My dear old thing,” Henry has spent over five decades entertaining audiences around the world.
Henry began his career writing for The Times in the 1960s and became a much-loved voice on BBC’s Test Match Special; his vibrant storytelling and infectious enthusiasm have won him fans far beyond the cricket pitch.
In his latest tour, Henry reflects on the huge changes he’s witnessed over his extraordinary career, sharing personal memories, behind-the-scenes tales and his unique take on the modern world.
When Henry started on Test Match Special in 1972, he says he was instructed that, while the job was in part about cricket commentary, it was even more about “providing company” for the listener.
He has since seen the game grow into a hugely international sport, where franchises have massive influence and ever more games are added to the world calendar.
In conversation with radio and podcast presenter Georgy Jamieson, Henry compares the cricketing landscape of today with the cherished memories of yesteryear and discusses the possible future of the sport, all told with his signature wit and insight.
Whether you’re a cricket fan or simply enjoy a good story well told, this promises to be an evening of charm, laughter and unforgettable stories.
Henry Blofeld is at The Apex on Wednesday, July 16, at 7.30pm. Tickets available from The Apex box office on 01284 758000, or online at www.theapex.co.uk.
