A “love of literacy” has come under the spotlight after a successful Book Mastermind brought together six schools in Suffolk.
The event was run by the Unity Schools Partnership and held at County High School, in Bury St Edmunds, after they were crowned winners last year.
This time, it was Samuel Ward Academy, in Haverhill, and Year 7 student Mel Kemparen-Thomson, who beat all comers in a hotly contested competition.
Ben Godsal, secondary English subject lead at Unity, said: “It was great to see so many students showcase such a love of literacy in what was our biggest ever Book Mastermind – with more schools, students and supporters than ever before.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to event organiser, Mandy Harvey at County, and to all our schools and, most of all, our young people for putting themselves out there to represent their school and Trust in a fantastic way.”
Students were quizzed on their favourite book before taking on a general knowledge round.
The schools involved were Breckland School, County High School, Felixstowe School, Newmarket Academy, Samuel Ward Academy and Thomas Gainsborough School.
