Man dies following serious assault at shopping precinct
A man who was critically ill in West Suffolk Hospital following an incident in Bury St Edmunds at the weekend has died.
Officers were called at 8.05pm on Saturday, July 26, to reports that a man in his 50s had been seriously assaulted in the St Olaves shopping precinct.
Police are now treating this as a homicide investigation and will be working with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to progress the investigation accordingly.
The suspect, Andrew Allen, aged 54 years old, was remanded in custody at a previous court hearing on Monday, July 28, having originally being charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
Allen is due to appear for a next hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, August 26.
