Bury Rugby Club season bolstered with triple headline sponsor renewal

Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club has announced that three long-term headline sponsors have once again strengthened their support for club, players and community, renewing for the 2025/2026 season.

This marks another chapter in a longstanding partnerships between the club and three highly respected businesses, that are deeply committed to supporting both an upcoming rugby season and the wider Bury St Edmunds community.

The three sponsors are:

  • Logan Capital Advisors, a growing US-based property developer with strong links to the town, who have been headline sponsors since 2021;
  • Merrifields, a regulated firm of chartered surveyors focusing on commercial property, who have sponsored for over 25 years and as headline sponsors for the last five seasons;

and 200-year-old brewer Greene King, based just up the road in Bury St Edmunds at the Westgate Brewery site, who have also been sponsoring for more than quarter of a century.

 “The ongoing and long-term support of key partners such as Logan Capital Advisors, Merrifields and Greene King goes beyond sponsorship,” says Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club chairman Craig Germeney.

“Consistent investment in supporting a local rugby club enables us to develop and strengthen our men’s, women’s, youth and community rugby programmes, support more than 100 volunteer coaches across every area, and deliver community and business initiatives that keep rugby accessible, inclusive and a true part of the fabric of our town.

“We are immensely grateful for their ongoing commitment and generous support, which plays a vital role across all levels of our club,.

“Their renewed pledges not only strengthens our foundation, but also reinforces the shared values and ambitions that drive our community forward.”

Jules Arthur, founding partner and chief operating officer at Logan Capital Advisors said: “Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club reflects the values we hold at Logan Capital Advisors – teamwork, ambition and community.

“We’re proud to continue our headline sponsorship, helping the club grow rugby at every level while connecting people, businesses and opportunities. Supporting Bury Rugby means investing in the future of the town we care deeply about.”

Gordon Ellis, the managing director at Merrifields added: “Merrifields is passionate about backing local organisations that make a real difference.

“Bury Rugby Club is more than a sporting institution – it’s a hub for friends, families, businesses and the wider community. We’re delighted to continue our partnership and play our part in helping rugby and the town thrive.”

And Kate Rayson, the sales development manager at Greene King, said: “Greene King Brewery has been part of Bury St Edmunds for over 200 years, and supporting our rugby club is a natural extension of that heritage.

“Rugby brings people together – just like our beers and our pubs. We’re proud to stand alongside the club as a sponsor, strengthening community spirit and building connections both on and off the pitch.”

The first game of the new season kicks off this weekend (Saturday, September 6) with Bury travelling to St Albans to face Old Albanians in National League 2 East.

This follows the appointment of new director of rugby James Shanahan earlier this year,  after a seven-season spell at the helm of Blackheath, who he guided to National League 2 East promotion in 2023.
