Folk duo Ninebarrow set to appear at The Apex next month

Multi-award-winning duo Ninebarrow (pictured above) are impressing audiences across the country with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition and are set to appear at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, next month.

Described by BBC presenter Mark Radcliffe as sounding like “two halves of one voice”, by Seth Lakeman as “a fantastic duo” and by Kate Rusby as “absolutely amazing”, Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere combine breath-taking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles.

In a few short years, the Dorset-based duo have carved themselves a distinctive niche on the folk roots scene for their outstanding harmonies, delicate instrumentation and engaging songs.

As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide-range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

They won Best Duo in the 2019 Folking.com awards, while their album, “The Waters and the Wild” (released in 2018) was awarded five stars in both The Morning Star and the English Folk Dance & Song Society’s EDS Magazine, and has received airplay on BBC Radios 2, 3 and 6 Music and reached number two in the Amazon.co.uk Folk Chart.

Folk luminary, Mike Harding, has hailed it as “absolutely monumental”.

Not only exceptional singers and musicians, Ninebarrow are also equally passionate about the stories behind their songs.

An evening with the duo isn’t just an evening of great music – it’s also a night of history, folklore, and storytelling.

Ninebarrow are performing at The Apex on Sunday, October 5, at 7pm.
