A new skatepark facility has been created in Bures thanks to a grant of over £34,000 from Enovert Community Trust (ECT), provided through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
The project, organised by the Bures Joint Sportsground Committee, reused existing half pipe sections and added in a new centre section with a fun box and grind rail, plus a concrete base.
Gill Jackson, chair of the committee, said: “This fantastic project provides the opportunity for local young people to be active physically in a free to access facility, and we predict the skatepark will be visited around 3,500 times a year.
“We are already seeing a range of age groups out on their skateboards, and it is providing a real alternative to local team sport provision and a great asset to Bures Sportsground.
As part of the planning for the project, local police officers were consulted and supported the initiative as a positive step-forward towards community well-being.
Angela Haymonds, trust manager of Enovert Community Trust, said: “The addition of this new skateboarding facility ensures that those young people who prefer independent, skills-based sports also have a dedicated space, and the Trustees were very pleased to have been able to fund the project.
“We hope it provides an inclusive and engaging space for local skateboarding enthusiasts and also those wanting to try the sport for the first time.”
