Risby Park Nursing Home is rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC

Risby Park Nursing Home (pictured above) has been rated “outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for a third time following an inspection in June and July.

The care home is run by The Partnership in Care Limited and supports up to 54 older people, some of whom were living with dementia or had nursing needs.

CQC carried out the inspection as part of its routine monitoring of care services and rated the home “outstanding” again for being caring and responsive and rated it for being safe, effective and well-led.

Hazel Roberts, CQC deputy director of operations in the East of England, said:  “When we visited Risby Park Nursing Home, many residents and their relatives told us staff were extremely kind and attentive, and this was evident throughout our inspection.

“We saw staff knew people very well, tailored care to their needs, and were well-trained and well-supported by their management.

“Staff involved people in decisions about their care and recognised their strengths.

“They took the time to learn about people as individuals and included specific preferences in their care plans, such as how someone preferred their hair done.

“They also promoted people’s independence through many optional activities and events.

“We saw residents enjoying a party themed around American Independence Day during our inspection, as well as two newly arrived guinea pigs which people were helping care for.

“Particular care was taken for people isolated in their rooms, for whom staff arranged one-to-one activities such as hand massages or reading together.

“Staff demonstrated great respect for the people they cared for, including through compassionate and exceptional care for people at the end of their lives.

“One person had recently passed away without a family, so leaders organised a funeral for them at the home.

“Staff created a display of photos celebrating their life and planted a tree in their memory.

“While we did find some improvements were needed in managing people’s medications and records, leaders responded to our concerns immediately and were overall skilled, passionate and transparent in their leadership.

“We saw both staff and residents felt listened to and safe to raise concerns to leaders.

“Staff at Risby should be proud of the hard work they’ve continued to put in for their residents.

“We’ve shared our findings with the home’s management, and we hope others look to this report as an example of great practice.”
