Teenager arrested following series of hoax 999 calls

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a number of hoax calls were made to emergency services.

Police were called at 3.50am this morning, Thursday, October 30, to Argyll Court, in Haverhill, following multiple calls from a member of the public reporting that a man had been seen with a machete in the street and that a person had been stabbed.

A number of police units, the East of England Ambulance Service and Suffolk Fire and Rescue attended the scene.

Police conducted an area search and found no trace of any suspect or of anybody being stabbed.

It is now believed that the reports made were false and there is no information to suggest that that members of the public were at risk during the incident.

A short time later police arrested a 19-year-old man from Haverhill on suspicion of wasting police time.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) where he will be questioned by officers.
