Development of Mildenhall bus station plans outlined
A planning application to redevelop the former bus station building in Mildenhall (pictured above) has been submitted.
West Suffolk Council is looking to visually improve a centrally located site in the town, support job creation and contribute positively to the local economy.
The planning application is for:
- Change of use from former bus station ticket office and public toilets to a mixed-use building comprising a commercial, business and service space (Class E) and public toilets;
- Reconfiguration of the public toilets;
- Replacing doors with windows on north elevation and blocking up of doors on the east elevation.
The property has been marketed by commercial agents and has received interest under the proposed Class E use.
To make the space more commercially viable the application is seeking to make internal alterations to create a new layout.
The council has also worked to retain the public toilets at the site, which will see them redesigned and modernised for continued community use.
The proposed development will not impact the bus service, and the covered outdoor seating will be kept.
Diane Hind, the portfolio holder for Resources at West Suffolk Council, said: “The council hopes that obtaining planning permission to convert the former bus station will enhance the viability of the building, support job creation and improve the attractiveness of the area.
“This is part of the council’s commitment to invest in our towns and provides the opportunity for business use, which complements our strategic priorities of thriving communities and sustainable growth.”
