Town miss the chance to leapfrog into the Championship play off places
Ipswich missed out on a chance to jump into the top six of the Championship yesterday (Saturday, November 22) following the goalless and frankly uninspiring draw against a dour Wrexham side.
The visitors, playing their first league game against Town, failed to have a single shot on target all game but defended stoutly in the face of continued pressure.
There were chances galore for the Town who carried the greatest threat throughout with Chuba Akpom, Jaden Philogene and Sindre Walle Egeli among those guilty of missing chances.
But the most glaring came in the 89th minute from substitute Kasey macerater whose shot from an acute angle flew across the six yard box and out for a goal kick.
Kieran McKenna’s side sit one point adrift of the Championship’s top six in eighth place having extended their unbeaten run to five matches while the Welsh outfit have not tasted defeat in six league games.
The Ipswich boss was philosophical about the draw despite having the best of the chances and said the team has to adapt with matches coming thick and fast including three games on the trot away from home in the next 10 days at Hull, Oxford and Blackburn, and a total of seven games in December including two crucial clashes against high flying Coventry.
It’s a testing time for the Super Blues and their dedicated fans and McKenna told the Ipswich Town website: “Not so long ago we winning our home games and scoring a few goals at home.
“Away was tougher and then the last two away games we scored eight goals but the last collection of home games here we’ve had an incredible amount of shots and chances relative to our conversion so that’s frustrating but we just need to just keep working on it, we need to keep learning our lessons as we go along.
“We’re not a long way away from winning that game today and winning consistently.
“If you give away a big chances in that game, if you concede a goal, if you lose concentration in terms of what you’re doing then you’re a long way away from winning that and you can lose the game very, very easily.
“The fact that we didn’t do that is a big positive.
“There was some good bits to our attacking play and some bits we need to improve
“That’s the process we need to go through, of course we’re not going to have a lot of training time but the matches are important at the moment and we’ve got to keep coming out of each one of them stronger.”
