Detectives granted more time to question sexual assault on jogger in Stowmarket

Police investigating a serious sexual assault that happened to a jogger in Stowmarket last week have been granted more time to question a man in connection with the incident.

The attack took place between 5.45am and 6am on Wednesday, November 19, along a path off Iliffe Way.

A woman aged in her 30s reported that she was out running when she was approached by an unknown man who pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

On Sunday, November 23, police arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning.

Yesterday afternoon, Monday, November 24, detectives made an application for a warrant of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court and were granted an additional 29 hours to question the suspect, expiring at 10pm today (Tuesday, November 25).

Detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the incident.
