Stowmarket sexual offence investigation update – two people arrested

Two people have been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault on a runner that occurred in Stowmarket two weeks ago.

The assault took place between 5.45am and 6am on Wednesday, November 19.

A woman aged in her 30s was out running along a pathway off Iliffe Way when she was approached by an unknown man, who pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Today, Wednesday, December 3, two people have been arrested as part of the investigation.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted rape.

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The pair have been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning, where they remain.

On Sunday, November 23, a 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the inquiry and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He was released without charge on Tuesday, November 25, and will face no further police action.

The victim has been supported by specialist trained officers and has been assisting detectives with their enquiries.

This includes helping to produce an EvoFIT likeness of the suspect.
