A12 to be closed for three weeks in January for series of work
A section of the A12 between Ipswich and Colchester is set to be closed for three weeks next month.
It’s part of work by National Highways to improve the dual carriageway and will result in motorists having to make a long detour through Horsely Cross, on the A120 to Clacton, Lawford, Manningtree, Brantham and Wherstead, towards the A14 and the Copdock interchange.
Work is set to be carried out on the northbound side of the road starting from Monday, January 12, between 9pm and 5am weeknights and will involve a series of tasks including resurfacing, refreshing road markings and drainage renewal.
It is part of a bigger project on the A12 between the Crown Interchange at Colchester (junction 29) and the Four Sisters junction (31) for Hadleigh and East Bergholt.
Those vehicles wanting to travel northbound on the A12 will have to exit at junction 29 and keep going east on the A120. At the A120/B1035 roundabout, take the B1035 (Clacton Road) and head north to join the B1352 (Long Road) and continue to Lawford. From Lawford, take the A137 and follow it to A14 junction 56 (Wherstead Interchange), then take the first exit onto the A14 and continue to junction 55 (Copdock Interchange) where traffic can carry on north on the A14 or head south on the A12.
A map of the diversion is above.
