A festive literacy celebration that started life in Iceland has made its way to the heart of a Bury St Edmunds secondary school.
All Year 7 students at County High School were treated to a personalised reading book this week as part of the Jolabokaflod celebration.
A Jolabokaflod is an Icelandic tradition of giving and receiving books to be enjoyed in the cold nights of deep winter along with a hot chocolate.
This tradition was kept alive by County High with their youngest year group also given a hot chocolate to enjoy over the Christmas break.
Charlotte Merryweather, assistant headteacher at County High School, said: “The Jolabokaflod is part of County High School’s commitment to get all students reading every day.
“We hope they all enjoy their gifts and can’t wait to hear their reviews in the new year.”
