Mongolian music on stage from Anda Union at The Apex next month

As Anda Union celebrate 20 years of music making, the band have become a culture phenomenon in The East and they are taking to the stage of The Apex, next month.

Recently winning the 2024 edition of the popular Chinese reality TV show “The Big Band”, they wowed audiences by singing in their mother tongue, rocketing into the limelight and bringing their Mongolian sound to the masses.

Anda Union (pictured above) have since starred in many commercial campaigns and headlined festivals and stadiums across China.

Formed in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, Anda Union all trained in traditional Mongolian music from a young age and are part of a revivalist movement – finding inspiration in traditional music and inspiring young audiences with the power and beauty of their traditions.

Their name, Anda – meaning “blood brother” in Mongolian – reflects their deep bond and their shared mission: to preserve and revitalize the endangered cultural heritage of the steppe.

Drawing on the traditions of Mongolia’s many ethnic groups, they weave together resonant throat singing, long-song, and instrumental mastery on horse-head fiddles, two-stringed lutes, flutes, and percussion, to create haunting harmonies and vibrant strings that evoke the Mongolian grasslands and the rhythms of horseback life.

Driven by their passion for cultural preservation, Anda Union has stunned audiences at major world music and mainstream festivals such as WOMAD, Roskilde Festival, Edinburgh Festival and Celtic Connections, and have performed at prestigious venues including the Southbank Centre and Kennedy Center.

Anda Union bring a unique combination of styles from across the grasslands, making a unique sound that remains true to their cultural roots and offers an unforgettable insight into one of the world’s oldest and richest musical traditions.

They are at The Apex on Thursday, February 5, at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more details and to book tickets.
