Long diversion to go in place for work on the A14

Motorists face a diversion of several miles off the A14 as work is set take place on the dual carriageway.

Resurfacing of the road between junctions 51 and 50 (Beacon Hill at the junction with the A14 and the Cedars interchange at Stowmarket) is scheduled to start next Monday, January 26, overnight between 8pm and 6am the following day, for a total of three weeks.

It will result in traffic having get further westward via the A140 towards Scole then across on the A143 towards the the A14 at Bury St Edmunds.

National Highways, who are carrying out the work, said repairs are needed to extend the life of the surface minimising the need for more extensive repairs in the future.

“This work is part of a bigger project on the A14 between junctions 47 and 55 (Copdock Interchange). We’ll share details of any future closures and diversions as soon as they’re confirmed.,” said Luke Doughty, the project manager for the Operations East, Scheme Delivery Team.

Road users travelling westbound on the A14 should leave the A14 at junction 51.

At junction 51, join the A140 northbound and continue on the A140 to the A140/A143 roundabout.  At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A143, following signs for Bury St Edmunds and stay on the A143 to join Compiegne Way.  Follow Compiegne Way to the A14 junction 43 (St Saviours interchange) and from here, road users can rejoin the A14 and continue eastbound or westbound.
