Sixth form at Beyton to move back to Thurston as part of multi-million pound redevelopment

The Thurston Community College’s sixth form is to move from its current site at Beyton once a multi-million pound redevelopment project has been completed.

It will return to the college in Norton Road and will be shared with the community library.

The plans were put on show last week at the college as part of a public exhibition which was attended by more than 200 people.

The project is part of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programm and includes relocating the sixth form from Beyton back to the Thurston site and replacing the current, single-storey main high school building with a three-storey building that would also house the sports centre.

The main entrance to the high school would move from Norton Road to Ixworth Road, there would be a new car park, more sports fields and more sports facilities, while some existing buildings would be retained, including the science block, air cadet facilities and caretaker properties.

People have the chance to submit feedback ahead of a planning application being submitted as early as next month.
