Man dies following incident at HMP Highpoint
A murder investigation has been launched following an incident at HMP Highpoint Prison, in Stradishall.
Detectives were called to Addenbrookes’ Hospital, in Cambridge, at 11.11am on Tuesday, January 27, following the death of a 28-year-old man.
The deceased had been an inmate of HMP Highpoint Prison and had been admitted to Addenbrookes’ on Friday, January 23 following an attack by another prisoner.
He was transported to and treated in hospital, before returning to prison.
He was then readmitted to hospital on Tuesday and has subsequently died.
The incident is being treated as a murder investigation and police are working closely with HMP Highpoint to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The family of the deceased have been made aware and are being supported by specialist trained officers.
A man aged in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning.
A Home Office post-mortem is scheduled to take place today, Friday, January 30.
