Sybil Andrews students begin benefitting from new library

A new student-run library has been officially opened at a Bury St Edmunds secondary school.

The ribbon has been cut on the library at Sybil Andrews Academy after students and staff teamed up to transform a new reading space.

The facility will be managed by a group of student librarians who also helped convert the area, which will be available for all year groups.

Victoria Middleditch, assistant headteacher at Sybil Andrews Academy, said: “Literacy is always a big focus in education and we want to do all we can to promote a love of reading among our students as it makes them better learners and brings enjoyment.

“The upgrade enhances the previous facilities and allows the space to be used in a variety of ways – from quiet study and group reading to accommodating whole classes.”

A spokesperson for the student librarians added: “We wanted to create a space that would both benefit students and their studies and be appealing to all.

“We are delighted that the library is up and running and we look forward to supporting all students.”
