Woman in her 80s suffers serious injuries after incident involving a firearm

An investigation is underway after a woman sustained serious injuries following an incident involving a firearm in Monks Eleigh.

Police were called by the East of England Ambulance Service at just before 4.10pm yesterday (Thursday, February 26), to an address at The Street, following reports that a woman had been injured after a firearm, thought to be an air weapon, was discharged.

The victim, a 83-year-old woman, sustained a chest injury and has been taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, where her condition is described as serious but stable at this time.

A man is his 80s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Officers are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
