Three people hurt and A14 closed following multi-vehicle collision

The A14 at Stowmarket has been closed after a multi-vehicle collision which resulted in three people being taken to hospital.

The incident took place at about 8.20am this morning (Monday, March 16) on the Ipswich-bound/eastbound carriageway of the road.

Emergency service attended the incident with ambulances taken the injured to the West Suffolk Hospital and the Ipswich Hospital.

The eastbound carriageway currently remains closed as a result of the crash.

Drivers are still facing delays of around 60 minutes in the Stowmarket area of the major route and a diversion route has been put in place.

It tells motorists to exit the A14 at Tot Hill and follow the A1308 through Stowmarket to the junction with the A1120 and B1113. At the junction, turn left and continue on the A1120 to rejoin the A14 at J50.

Emergency service were also called to reports of a lorry striking a bridge near to the Stowupland turn-off.

A vehicle travelling in the westbound carriageway has also been damaged by what is believed to be debris from the crash on the other carriageway.

According to the AA Traffic Map there are severe delays in the area.
