Motorist sought by police after being involved in road rage incident

A motorist has avoided being caught by police following a road rage incident in Sudbury where he punched another driver and rammed into his car.

Officers were called at 9.35pm on Saturday, March 28, by a member of the public reporting that their car was being rammed by another car in Gainsborough Street.

Following an earlier disagreement, the suspect – who was driving a grey Audi A6 – is alleged to have followed the victim’s car – a black Mercedes – before the victim parked up and was then approached by the suspect, who got out of his car and punched the victim in the face.

The suspect then proceeded to follow the victim around the town before ramming into his car in Gainsborough Street.

Police were called and located the suspect vehicle which failed to stop for police and attempted to reverse into a police car in Gregory Street.

Officers pursued the suspect out of Sudbury towards Clare, before officers deployed a stinger to stop the vehicle in the vicinity of Silver Street, Kedington, at around 11.20pm.

The vehicle continued to drive a short distance with the stinger stuck under the wheels before the driver decamped in Rectory Road and ran off.

Officers conducted searches of the surrounding area but the suspect was not located.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.

They are also appealing for anyone who may have private CCTV or doorbell camera footage in the areas mentioned to review it for any material that may be of assistance.
