Harry Redknapp set to appear at The Apex later this month
Back by popular demand, Harry Redknapp (pictured above) returns to The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, to regale the audience with stories from his football and TV career.
The football legend, TV pundit, and Premier League manager is one of the most prolific names in football and one of the funniest, most entertaining speakers on the circuit.
Harry played as a midfielder, starting his career with Tottenham Hotspur, playing for the youth team until he was 15 years old, before he moved to West Ham United where he broke into the first team in the 1965–66 seasons.
He also played in and managed AFC Bournemouth and West Ham, before becoming director and/or manager for Portsmouth, Southhampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City.
He has assisted many clubs to success and has helped and encouraged younger players in the game, while enjoying a career as a TV sports pundit.
In 2018 he entered the jungle for “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here” and ultimately went on to win.
The following year, he starred in the TV series “Harry’s Heroes”, when he attempted to get a team of unfit England ex-footballers from the 1990s back in shape to take on their old rivals Germany.
When asked what he would talk about in the forthcoming show, Harry said: “Anything and everything!
“Obviously there is now a new audience who know me from the jungle. That was a great experience and provides plenty to talk about.
“There is a lot of interest in the ‘Harry’s Heroes’ shows – that was great fun to make and full of characters to talk about.
“Then there’s the people I played with at West Ham, Jimmy Greaves, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and all the others, and my time playing in the USA. Plus, there’s loads of laughs from my days as a manager at Premier League level and times in the lower division.
“There are some true but very funny incidents over the years. I’m unlikely to run out of stories for the foreseeable future.
“Hopefully people have enjoyed the previous shows and may come back. We will mix it up with stories old and new.”
Acknowledging that managing is serious business, Harry says: “it is and it’s quite lonely too, because the buck stops with you.
“Being in the jungle made me laugh again more than I remember laughing for years.
“The stories about players from my management days are very funny now. But like a lot of things, they weren’t necessarily funny at the time they happened. The main thing is that onstage we have fun.”
And Harry added: “I’m looking forward to meeting people as well, and the banter on the road with my touring companions Terry and Freda from ‘A1 Sporting Speakers’. The only downside is hours on the motorways which I thought I’d left behind me when I finished managing!”
Harry Redknapp is at The Apex on Tuesday, May 26, at 7.30pm.
