Suffolk pub wins top accolade from Countryside Alliance
The Peacock Inn, the Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded country pub in Chelsworth, has been named “Best Pub” for the East of England in the prestigious Countryside Alliance Awards 2026.
Set within a restored Grade II-listed 14th-century timber-framed hostelry, The Peacock Inn has become one of Suffolk’s most celebrated rural destinations.
The award-winning pub features seven individually designed bedroom suites, complete with oak-beamed ceilings, fireplaces, king-sized beds and views overlooking the River Brett.
Offering the ideal countryside escape, guests can step directly from the inn into the rolling Suffolk countryside, with walking and cycling routes on the doorstep.
At the heart of The Peacock Inn experience is its restaurant – the only Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded restaurant in the immediate area, where seasonal British cooking celebrates the very best of Suffolk produce.
Led by general manager Jack Butler and head chef Sam Clover, the menu showcases ingredient-led dishes including wild mushroom and egg yolk ravioli with cep vinaigrette and mushroom sauce; halibut with saffron potatoes, blood orange and habanero kosho; and Suffolk lamb served across shoulder, breast and leg with lamb fat dumplings, wild garlic and asparagus.
Mr Butler said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition from the Countryside Alliance Awards.
“The Peacock Inn has always aimed to be a genuine village pub at its heart while offering guests an exceptional food and stay experience.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of our entire team and to the wonderful local suppliers and community who support us.”
The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate rural businesses that go above and beyond in championing local produce, sustaining communities and preserving the character of the British countryside. Winners are chosen by public vote.
