Motorcyclist caught riding at over 150mph on A14 gets 12 month ban

A 41-year-old man has been banned from the roads after being caught riding a motorbike at over 150mph on the A14 last year.

Dale Gooderham, of Mendlesham Road, Cotton, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court (pictured above) on Monday, May 11, where he was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £168 in costs and surcharges.

At 2.35pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, a member of the Safety Camera Team captured a Suzuki motorcycle travelling at 158mph on the A14 at Creeting St Peter.

Mr Gooderham admitted to being the rider of the motorcycle and pleaded guilty to the offence, which was required to be dealt with at court due to the speed being classed as a “high speeder” and too fast for a conditional offer to be issued (i.e. a speed awareness course or penalty points and a fine).

Chief Inspector Gary Miller, head of the Roads and Armed Policing Team, said: “This is one of the highest speeds I have known to be recorded in Suffolk and I doubt there are many that have surpassed it.

“To travel at such a speed is reckless and dangerous in the extreme and – as a motorbike rider myself – I find it truly shocking.

“Not only are you placing yourself in great danger, you pose a very real risk to other road users.

“At that speed you have no time to react to any other hazards on the road and anything could suddenly appear in your path – a broken down vehicle or wildlife for example.

“Motorcyclists are one of the most vulnerable groups of road users and are disproportionately affected in fatal collisions across the country, making up only 1 per cent of the motoring population but accounting for almost one in five (19pc) fatalities.”
