Swinging success for Bury Abbey Rotary Golf Day

The Bury Abbey Rotary Golf Day, held on Friday, June 12, at Stowmarket Golf Club, was an event that raised an impressive £6,600 for the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS).
The record turnout of 108 golfers not only showcased the local community’s spirit but also directly contributes to the invaluable work of thecharity.
Nic Hardy, the Golf Day organiser, expressed his gratitude, saying: “We had tremendous support from local businesses who sponsored holes and donated prizes.
“It was fantastic to see the course in excellent condition, providing a true test of skill for all participants.
“The club’s facilities and ongoing support were integral to making the day a success. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and I’m excited to announce that we’ve already booked the date for next year’s event on Friday, June 11, 2027.”
This year’s event saw impressive performances, with the following teams taking home prizes:
- 1st Place: The Diaper Poultry Team – 121 points.
Members: David Diaper, Andy Routledge, Mike Sinclair and Steve Jones. - 2nd Place: Team Cornish – 115 points.
Members: Claire Cornish, Chris Ashworth, Kevin Cornish and Dan Rogers. - Yellow Ball Team (on countback): 39 points.
Members: Nick Williams, Dean Carley, Andrew Callen and Peter Chaney.
Individual Honours:
- Nearest the Line on Hole 5: John McCabe (right on the line!).
- Nearest the Pin on Hole 11: Tim Mitchell.
- Longest Drive on Hole 13: Neil Emms.
- Nearest the Pin in 2 on Hole 15: Andrew Ridley.
